5 Books on Studying Artists

This months theme for the Poppins Book Nook is ARTISTS.  Art can be a sensitive topic among home educating families. It all boils down to your preference and your personal home educating philosophy.

I have a passion for twaddle free living literature and have been collecting books for many years now.  Today I would like to share five of my favorite go to books and five art projects we have enjoyed this year.

If you would like more information on a book click on the link below the graphic.

Until Next month

Blessings

Joseph Haydn {Composer Study - Poppins Book Nook}

This months theme for the Poppins Book Nook is Composer Study. There are so many wonderful resources available today to make studying the composers a pleasure and and an adventure.  Great Musicians Series from Zeezok Publishing is one of my all time favourite living history resources for introducing famous musicians to my students.

This books are 9 x 7 inches in size and have beautiful line drawings throughout.  They are biographical stories about composers. They share a little background about what's happening in the composers life and then insert the piano music for the piece of music being discussed along with a reference to the companion CD.

We use the companion CD's and it's Nathaniel's job to play the correct track at the moment the piece is introduced. The stories are well written and twaddle free.

Our 10 Favourite Caldecott Medal Books

This months theme for the Poppins Book Nook is Caldecott Medal Books.

If you had asked me twenty years ago what a Caldecott book was I would not have had any idea.  Thanks to homeschooling I was introduced to the concept of twaddle free literature and the importance of beautiful pictures in the lives of my children.

Before I began home educating I had no idea of the importance or impact of any of these things and thanks to Sonlight I now have a good insight into both. Our first three years of homeschooling were with Sonlight and a good many of the books I received in those cores contained Caldecott Medal books which served as good training to spot a beautifully illustrated book at the library and for that I'm really grateful to the people at Sonlight who choose the books for the cores.

Without further ado these are a few of our favourite things ...
